3) Amy Irving

As a struggling actress who was just beginning to make her mark on the world, Amy Irving must have known she’d hit the gold digger jackpot when she started to date Stephen Spielberg in 1976. They broke up in 1980, causing her to lose out on the role she’d been offered, that of Marion in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Irving wasn’t stupid and knew where a great meal ticket sat, because after seeing other people for a couple of years, she got back together with Spielberg and married him in 1985. Being a smart businessman, Spielberg made up a solid prenup for them both to sign. Being stupid and in love, he wrote the prenup on a stained bar napkin.

Imagine his surprise when, at their 1989 divorce hearing, the judge threw out the prenuptial and awarded Irving $100 million. How much of the settlement was actually punishment for gross stupidity is anyone’s guess, but if there’s any justice in the world that was part of the reasoning. Irving has gone on to marry two other men who, we presume, have much more solid paperwork tucked away, just in case.
