Shields was thirteen when she first encountered Jackson in 1981 and they hit it off right away. They formed a very close relationship, so close that Jackson even proposed marriage to Shields on several occasions but she was certain of their longevity as a couple which meant that she didn’t feel the need for a ring. Their platonic friendship meant a lot to her and she didn’t want to spoil that with any relationship awkwardness.

Turns out wisdom does come from the mouths of babes. As the two grew older and Jackson dipper further and further into the stranger sides of his personality, Shields reports that he became increasingly asexual to her.

Shields says that the last time she saw Jackson was at Elizabeth Taylor’s 1991 wedding during which they snuck into the bridal sweet to take selfies next to her dress. Their sense of play together was a pattern that she reports typical of their relationship; they had fun and were always able to be kids with each other. The two finally lost touch in 1993, a bittersweet ending to this too odd to be believed relationship.
