6. Underneath It All – Gwen Stefani

It’s really sad to listen to a song you know is based on a real-life romance when the romance ends, especially in a way that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s love ended.

“Underneath It All,” one of No Doubt’s biggest hits, was written by the band’s vocalist Stefani during her visit to then boyfriend, rocker Rossdale, in London.

The lovely (and sexy) song describes the platinum blonde’s relationship with the rocker, while the “You’re really lovely underneath it all” line comes from a journal entry that Stefani made after a beautiful day in the park with her love.

The pair was married for more than 10 years, and they share three sons and a divorce.
