About a month ago, one of the greatest comedians of all times, Robin Williams, decided it was his time to leave this world. As from the 4th of September 2014, we are short of another comedy genius. Joan Rivers died at the age of 81.
Following her sad passing, Hollywood came out in force to pay their respects.
“Joan Rivers will always be a pioneer. She paved the way for a lot of comedians. I’m very sad she’s gone,” Ellen DeGeneres tweeted, while official Fashion Police twitter account stated: “We’re very sad to share that Joan Rivers has passed away. Our hearts go out to her family.”
“A legend, a friend, a mentor, an icon, and wildly funny. One of a kind. RIP JoanRivers” Kathy Griffin wrote on her Twitter account.
Kathy is a fellow comedian and Joan’s friend who is also well known for her controversial humor.
“My friend Joan Rivers has passed away once again to quote Billy Crystal… There are no words. Bon Voyage Joan,” Whoopi Goldberg stated, while Ricky Gervais wrote: “RIP the mighty Joan Rivers. Funny & fearless. Truly one of a kind.”
Lena Dunham and Sarah Silverman, also fellow comediennes who were greatly influenced by Joan’s unique sense of humor, both tweeted their condolences on Thursday.
Lena wrote: “Watching Joan Rivers do standup at age 81 was incredible: athletic, jaw-dropping, terrifying, essential. It never stopped. Neither will she,” while Sarah was so deep in the state of disbelief, that she simply wrote: “My heart is torn in half. She wasn’t done.”
Her co-host George Kotsiopoulous tweeted: “Rest in peace @Joan_Rivers. Thank you for changing my life. I will miss you so much.”
Remember her with a smile
Joan was surrounded by friends and family, and in a statement her daughter Melissa said: “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
And we will. That’s a promise.
