September 2013 saw one of the most adorable celeb weddings that’s come across our radar in recent years: the marriage of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. The couple had been together for seven years when Legend popped the question in 2011 during a vacation in the Maldives. Legend performed his song “All of Me” at the wedding and alleged, from the heart, that it was specifically about Teigen. The bride wore not one, not two, but three Vera Wang designs; an ivory strapless ceremony dress with tulle skirt, a second ivory strapless in organza for the reception, and a crimson mermaid gown for the after-party. The ceremony was held in Lake Como, Italy with friends and family in attendance, and (by all accounts) was absolutely swoon-worthy.

Except, for a not-so-brief time, it looked like it might be an utter disaster. Storms in Ohio delayed several of the guests traveling in by air specifically for the Saturday ceremony, the couple revealed for the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. Since family is important to the couple, they were determined to wait it out. The guests who were present didn’t panic; they just sat back and had a few more cocktails while waiting for the Legend family to arrive.

Four hour later, and significantly more intoxicated, guests were treated to the simple ceremony officiated by Legend’s uncle – with everyone in attendance! If that’s not patience, we don’t know what is.

So if you’re gearing up for your special day, just remember that not everything goes according to plan. For something to be truly Legend-ary, you may just have to wait a while longer.
